Up close with the Emicro One folding electric scooter (pictures)

The Emicro One folding scooter won't break your back: it weighs far less than the competition at just 16.5 pounds, or about 7.5kg.

The scooter folds down fairly quickly with a quick-release lever and pair of spring-loaded buttons on either side.

The scooter charges fully in an hour, and has regenerative braking efficient enough to fill the battery in 15 minutes of downhill. (Realistically, you'll get a tiny bit back each time you hit the brakes.)

The grips don't fold down on either side, unlike on other scooters.

There's a tiny spring-loaded kickstand on the left side.

The integrated 500W electric motor has no power button. Just kick off, and it'll come to life and increase your speed.

The tires are soft inside to smooth out bumps, but hard on the outside to wear slowly.

It's hard to tell the Emicro One is an electric scooter.

Tap the rear break three times to turn off the motor completely, making it a normal kick-scooter.

It's extremely well-built, with nice wide comfortable grips on its telescoping handlebars.
