Tumblr gets a cleaner layout and more features (pictures)

The updated Tumblr app is a marked improvement over previous versions, with new ways to post content and do just about everything from your smartphone.

Tap the house-shaped icon in the lower left to go the home screen. Here is where you'll see the latest posts from all the people you follow on Tumblr.

The search screen shows you trending posts and gives you a bunch of recommended people to follow. Start here to get the lay of the land and follow some posts that interest you.

When you touch the post button, you get a screen of the various post types to choose from.

Text posts open in a window that's similar to an email client. Just add a title at the top and start writing.

Whether it's a photo or video post, the Tumblr app will ask for access to your library. You also have the option to open up your iPhone camera from within the app for a new photo or video.
