Toyota keeps it green with the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid (pictures)
Toyota's littlest crossover goes big on fuel economy, thanks to the inclusion of a hybrid-electric drivetrain. All RAV4 models have been upgraded for 2016 with a mild aesthetic refresh, as well.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is the brand's eighth hybrid.
The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor and battery. The whole system puts out 194 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque.
With a 0-60 mph time of 8.1 seconds, not only is the RAV4 Hybrid Toyota's most efficient RAV4, it's also the quickest.
EPA estimates have not yet been published, but Toyota estimates the RAV4 Hybrid's fuel economy at 34 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined.
The RAV4 Hybrid is capable of moving on battery power alone for 0.6 mile at a speed up to 25 mph.
All RAV4s have been updated for 2016. The headlights are slimmer, the front end is a little sharper and the rear end features new taillights and a shark-fin antenna.
Inside, all RAV4 models feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The Hybrid XLE trim level comes with smartphone-based navigation, but a 7-inch unit with built-in navigation is standard equipment on the range-topping Limited trim.
Moving up to the Hybrid Limited trim also gives you heated leatherette seats, with power adjustability for the driver.
Otherwise, the RAV4's interior is largely unchanged for 2015. Notable updates for the new model year include LED lighting for the lower center console and revised cupholders capable of handling mugs with large handles.
All RAV4 Hybrid models feature a 4.2-inch TFT screen between the gauges, which displays pertinent information, including a cute little diagram explaining how the hybrid system is working at any given time.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE starts at $28,370, and the Limited will run you $33,610. Neither price includes destination and delivery. There is no pricing data available for the UK market.
Sadly, Australians will not be able to get in on the RAV4 Hybrid fun. Consider it an excuse for a vacation.
