Dell XPS 15

Here's our weekly roundup of the new products CNET reviewers liked best.

Dell XPS 15

Editors' rating: 4 out of 5

The good: Stellar JBL speakers with subwoofer; great specs for the price; large touch pad and backlit keyboard; Nvidia Optimus graphics; large variety of upgrade options; HDMI 1.4 and USB 3.0 ports come standard.

The bad: Clunky-looking design; disappointing battery life; no VGA port.

The bottom line: Dell's new line of XPS laptops, including the XPS 15, offers more bang for the buck than most, combining great audio and rock-solid features for less than $1,000.

The good: Same excellent Envy construction and design, with a cool black paint job.

The bad: ATI switchable graphics not as seamless as Nvidia's; some confusing pricing changes.

The bottom line: HP's Envy 14 Beats Edition is a black-clad copy of the well-built standard version, available (at least for now) without a price premium.

HTC HD7 (T-Mobile)

HTC HD7 (T-Mobile)

Editors' rating: 4 out of 5

The good: The HTC HD7 features a large 4.3-inch display and has a solid build quality and integrated kickstand. The Windows Phone 7 device offers full wireless options, a 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture, and 16GB of internal memory.

The bad: The HD7 is on the bigger side and lacks expandable memory. Speaker is weak. Touch screen isn't quite as sharp or vibrant as the latest devices.

The bottom line: The hardware could use a bit of updating, but the HTC HD7 for T-Mobile combines the power of Windows Phone 7 with a large touch screen and delivers satisfying performance.

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Limited

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Limited

Editors' rating: 4 out of 5

The good: Off-road control systems let the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee tackle tough terrain. The stereo sounds excellent and includes 30GB of onboard storage space for music. Satellite television is included with the rear-seat entertainment system.

The bad: The cabin tech interface does not have the same refined look as the interior of the Grand Cherokee would suggest. The automatic transmission only has five speeds.

The bottom line: The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee drives well both on and off road, and brings a good set of cabin tech features, even if the look is a little haphazard.

6 of 10 Nintendo

Nintendo Wii Remote Plus (white)

Nintendo Wii Remote Plus (white)

Editors' rating: 4 out of 5

The good: Exact same feel as classic Wii Remote; no added bulk; integrated Motion Plus gyroscope; more affordable than buying a Remote and Motion Plus accessory separately.

The bad: Someone who already owns a ton of Wii Remotes and Motion Plus dongles doesn't really need to spend an extra $40 for this; Motion Plus technology still undersupported in Wii games.

The bottom line: Nintendo has finally released a remote with Wii Motion Plus tech built in, and it's indistinguishable from the classic Wii Remote--in a good way.

The good: Impressive output speed and print quality; networking with Ethernet port; duplexer for double-sided printing; extra-large 350-sheet paper input tray.

Editors' rating: 4 out of 5

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Pearl 3G is a slim and compact smartphone with features like Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G support. It has external media keys and the optical touch pad felt easy to use.

The bad: The SureType keyboard isn't for everyone, and we did find the media keys to be a little hard to press. Picture quality isn't as good as we hoped.
