This month in video games screenshots: September 2009

With the summer gaming drought officially over, there are plenty of solid releases to look forward to in the month of September.

The guitar game that started it all is back with its fifth iteration featuring legendary rock stars like Kurt Cobain.   Guitar Hero 5 also puts a focus on customization now that players can tweak their band members and instruments.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii)--September 8

Muramasa is an explosive action adventure game exclusively for the Wii that features a unique art style and hand-painted environments. The game combines traditional action elements with that of an RPG for a truly unique experience.

Dirt 2 (360, PS3, PC, Wii, PSP, DS)--September 8

Dirt 2 adds new physics and animations all while introducing a new head-to-head online mode. A brand-new world tour with X-Games branding, new courses, and cars await you in this follow-up to the muddy racer.

The Beatles: Rock Band (360, PS3, Wii)--September 9

The most famous rock and roll group of all time comes to Rock Band on September 9. The game will feature 45 songs that span across the band's career in addition to some of the classic venues the group has performed at, including the Ed Sullivan Show and Shea Stadium.

Mario and Luigi join forces once again in Bowser's Inside Story, continuing the epic RPG series. The exclusive DS title will have you exploring an entire new world--but this time it's in Bowser's stomach.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS, PS2)--September 15

Featuring 24 playable characters, Ultimate Alliance 2 allows you to assemble your favorite Marvel characters in a fight for mutant rights. This time around, you'll have to balance your actions and the moral implications they have on the world around you.

Wet (360, PS3)--September 15

Wet introduces a brand-new female action hero to take on enemies with. Eliza Dushku stars as Rubi Malone, a sword- and gun-toting contract killing machine for hire. The stylized Grindhouse-esque action game also stars Alan Cumming and Malcolm McDowell.

Scribblenauts (DS)--September 15

Scribblenauts is a puzzle game that gives players the ability to summon various objects simply by writing them out. Around 10,000 words have been programmed into this DS exclusive, which also offers more than 200 varying levels.

NHL 10 (360, PS3) & NHL 2K10 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2)--both September 15

NHL 10 features brand-new animations, gameplay features like board pinning and first-person fighting, along with all-new crowd animations.

NHL 2K10 offers all of the excitement of hockey with updated graphics and physics. New for 2K10, gamers will be able to play in the 2010 Winter Classic!

Halo 3: ODST (360)--September 22

ODST puts you in the role of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper who is trapped behind enemy lines in New Mombasa. While the story lives within the Halo universe, this separate campaign won't feature Master Chief.

Dead Space Extraction (Wii)--September 29

Dead Space Extraction tells the story of the events that precede the original Dead Space. Extraction is strictly an on-rails shooter, meaning your walking movements are locked, so you'll have to rely on your Wii remote aiming skills to survive.

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge (PSP, PS2)--September 29

The over-the-top racing game makes its way onto the PSP and the PS2 in Arctic Edge. With the Alaskan wilderness as the game's backdrop, you'll have to brave the elements in addition to your cutthroat competition.
