The eight not-so-great: 2013's handset duds (pictures)

Not everything in the past is seen through rose-colored glasses. Case in point: these eight phones that stood out in 2013 for their disappointing failures.

Alcatel One Touch Evolve

Given the handset's glacial processor, lack of 4G, and low-resolution screen, the One Touch Evolve from Alcatel should be renamed the One Touch Devolve, as it is quite the step backward for smartphone technology.

Samsung Gravity Q

Though it does have a comfortable keyboard, the Gravity Q doesn't have much else going for it. For example, it only supports 3G networks, its screen is too dim, and it has a poor speakerphone.

LG Envoy II

Don't get us wrong, the Envoy II didn't land on this list just because it's a regular ol' flip phone. We like flip phones around here -- just not this one. Especially since it has some design flaws, a mediocre display, and you can't plug your standard headphones into it.

ZTE Groove

Let's just say that whatever you do, don't get into the Groove. For a device that features Cricket's music subscription service, you'd think it'd have a decent speaker. Unfortunately, it doesn't, and on top of that, it's running the dated Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS (remember that?!).

Huawei Pal

With a measly rating of 4.9, the Pal gets the dubious "honor" of being the lowest-scoring phone of 2013. Don't feel too bad for it, though -- as a simple cell phone, it should just be able to make a solid call, but it can't even do that well enough.

Alcatel Authority

The only thing the Alcatel Authority should be an authority on is how not to be a decent smartphone. Some of its tips would include: run a dated OS version, have a low-res screen, and include a sluggish processor.

LG Cosmos 3

In addition to its clunky construction, the Cosmos 3 from LG has a meager camera that can hardly do anything, and a Web browser that has a cumbersome UI. Needless to say, this is indeed a cosmonot.

Cricket Engage LT

Don't let the stylish design of the Engage LT fool you. It may look pretty on the outside, but inside lie a laggy processor and a crummy camera. Prepare to disengage.
