The best of the Computex Design and Innovation awards 2016

Taiwan's Computex trade show every year honours the best in consumer technology innovation and design. Here are our favourites from the winning designs.

Flux Delta

In the rather broad category of Wearable Technology and Smart Applications/Products, the Flux Delta 3D printer took the gold prize. It combines 3D scanning, 3D printing, laser engraving and drawing in one machine.

U Surfing

TPV Technology's U Surfing curved display was awarded gold in the Displays and Audio/Video category. The base of the monitor integrates a wireless charging station for a smartphone, and a speaker that integrates bass and treble.

Gama

The Gama twin display point-of-sale system took gold in the Computer Systems category. "With integrated functions, such as inventory management, interactive advertisement, scanner, payment and receipt printer, Gama brings convenience, efficiency and power to shop owners and shoppers alike," maker TPV Technology wrote.

HTC Desire 530

HTC's Desire 530 was the cream of the crop for Network and Communication Products this year. Each phone is unique: "Inspired by sportswear and street art, a micro-splash effect on the plastic shell gives each phone a unique pattern as it goes through production, treating the phone as a canvas."

HTC Vive

HTC also took gold in the Gaming Hardware category with its Vive VR headset. CNET's Scott Stein wrote of the headset in his review, "Vive is the best virtual-reality experience you can have right now, thanks to its motion controls and room-scale tracking. It's the closest thing to having a holodeck in your home."

SafSmart Whistle

For the first time, Computex had a Rising Star category, and its inaugural winner is the SafSmart Whistle by the WISO. This Bluetooth-enabled safety whistle not only makes a loud noise, it also automatically calls, texts and emails your trusted contacts with location data every few minutes once activated by blowing into it or pressing its button.
