No ticket needed

On June 14, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us video game arrives exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The developer -- known for prolific games such as the Uncharted and Jak and Daxter series -- aims to plunge players into a post-pandemic world ravaged by zombie-esque creatures running amok because of a viral fungal infection.

In a special reveal, Naughty Dog released some concept images by renowned gaming artist John Sweeney that inspired the apocalyptic world featured in the title. The highly anticipated game took home numerous accolades (and "Best of" awards) from gaming and technology news outlets at E3 2012.

In this first image, we see a vision of Joel, the main protagonist, making his way through a long-abandoned Boston subway terminal. Judging by the shattered glass and general sense of disarray, it appears great chaos took place in this scene. Hopefully he has enough battery life left to keep the flashlight running.

Interstate 90

The primary objective for those playing The Last of Us revolves around ushering a young girl known as Ellie across the U.S. to safer pastures. In this conceptual image, we see Ellie alone near Interstate 90, which stretches from coast to coast. Kudzu and other weeds grow in abundance in this deserted area, while several wrecked and abandoned cars lay on the roads.

Save the day

Every second counts when you're about to die. In this hectic scene, it seems apparent that matters most in a survival game may not be your own skills, but rather what your allies can do for you.

Infected man

You might cringe at the sight of this infected male humanoid from The Last of Us. In the video game, he'll attempt to capture Joel and Ellie, as well as spread a fungal infection anywhere he goes.

Infected woman

A female infected humanoid, perhaps in a later stage of disease, appears far worse -- or maybe better -- off than her male counterpart.

Sweet dreams

Want to open the door? Well, you’ll have to get past this infected humanoid who's become a part of the entrance in this nightmarish concept drawing from The Last of Us.
