Terraria looks great on iOS (pictures)

Whether you're exploring the surface or mining deep into the world, this game looks fantastic.

Explore a giant 2D world

Just like on PCs and consoles, you'll be able to travel over land or mine to the depths in this fun and challenging sandbox game.

If you build it, they will come

You'll need to build housing (and fulfill other requirements) in order for helpful NPCs to arrive. An acceptable house needs a floor, ceiling, and walls on the sides, along with a back wall, a table, a chair, and some lighting.

Mine deep below the surface

With your house set up, it's time to start digging to find minerals and other goodies. You'll soon learn there's an enormous map to explore.

Using the zoom window

As you dig down, you'll come across large caverns you can explore. When you find a vein of ore to mine, a small window zooms in on the action so you can select specific blocks to hit with your pickaxe.

Search for large veins of minerals

Unlike in the original Terraria for PCs and consoles, minerals occasionally glow to make them easier to spot.

Search for chests

There are several chests hidden around the map that contain money, ammo, weapons, and other useful items.

Build your base for more NPCs

Once you have mined the resources and chopped down the trees, you can build your base bigger to bring in more of the NPCs that sell valuable tools and other items.

Beware the dungeon

There is only one dungeon on every map and you'd be wise not to set foot in there until very late in the game when you're strong enough to fight challenging enemies.

iPhone zoom window problems

On the iPhone and iPod Touch, you can't see as much of the map, and the zoom window can go off screen in some situations.
