Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)

Samsung's 2014 version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 might be its best iteration yet. The 10.1-inch slate rocks an eight-core chip, upgraded full-HD resolution, and ramped-up multitasking features. Like the Galaxy Notes before it, the new model comes with the handy-dandy S Pen.

The 2014 Note 10.1 also received a stylish makeover, passing on the shiny monochromatic back for a leather-effect plastic rear with stitching around the edge.

Asus Memo Pad 10

Budget tablets are all the rage, and the Asus got the memo. Their budget line-up of Memo tablets now includes the newly announced Pad 10.

The 10-inch device -- which comes in gray, white, or pink -- features a 1,280x800-pixel screen, quad-core processor, and microSD expansion slot. Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but I expect Asus to competitively price the Android 4.2 slate.

LG G Pad 8.3

After spending some time out of the tablet game, LG is putting forth a promising effort with the G Pad 8.3. The 8.3-inch tablet boasts an impressive 1,920x1,200 pixel resolution -- the same as the 2013 Google Nexus 7 -- and a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Don't call it a comeback! Or go ahead and call it a comeback -- I won't tell you what to do.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which stylishly dons the same leather-effect plastic back as the Note 10.1 (2014), offers some new upgrades to its most useful features.

The thinner and lighter model has a slightly bigger screen and makes sure you take advantage of it with new uses for the S Pen and improvements to its multitasking function.

Asus FonePad 7

The Asus FonePad 7 2014 Edition is a phablet, a phone-tablet hybrid, that features a few upgrades from its predecessor for roughly the same price tag.

The 2014 version of the device comes with faster HSPA+ 3G capabilities and Asus' useful Floating Apps feature, which helps simulate a multiwindow experience.

Acer Liquid S2

While we're on the subject of phablets, Acer introduced its own portable-electronic-mutt with the release of the Liquid S2. The 6-inch device has a Gorilla Glass screen, 4G capabilities, and the ability to shoot 4K video.

Asus Memo Pad 8

The Asus Memo Pad 8 is a mediocrely specced tablet that would benefit from an enticingly low price tag. The 8-inch slate has some average features, including a 1,280x800-pixel resolution IPS screen, Android 4.2, and a quad-core CPU.

Asus Transformer Book T300

Like many Asus Transformers before it, the Transformer Book T300 can easily switch from a tablet to a laptop with the slide of a button. Unlike previous models, it runs Windows 8. Whether you think that's an upgrade or not is a personal opinion.

Sony Vaio Tap 11

Sony's latest Windows 8 tablet, the Vaio Tap 11, features a digitizer stylus and keyboard cover. The 11-inch device, which looks like a big brother to Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, also has an adjustable stand and NFC support.

Alcatel OneTouch Evo8 HD

It's hard to see how Alcatel's OneTouch Evo8 HD tablet is an upgrade to its previous 8-inch device; they both feature the same same OS, resolution, internal storage, CPU, and RAM. The kicker? The old model started at $179, whereas the OneTouch Evo8 HD has a $299 starting price.

Acer Iconia A3

As a 10-inch tablet, it's going to be hard for the Acer Iconia A3 to fiercely compete in its category, thanks to its unimpressive build quality and subpar 1,280x800-pixel resolution. Fortunately for those pining for the Iconia A3, the tablet is moderately priced -- in the countries it's available in.

Asus Transformer Book Trio

The Asus Transformer Book Trio is one of the most impressively versatile tablets released at IFA 2013. The 11.6-inch device can be a laptop (when connected to the keyboard), tablet, and a monitor.

This 7-inch Lenovo tablet is one of the lightest at only 0.54 pound, but unfortunately, it's also light on the impressive specs. Read more here.
