T-Mobile Dash 3G
The T-Mobile Dash 3G is the carrier's version of the HTC Snap, which was first introduced at CTIA 2009. The smartphone is a much needed upgrade to the T-Mobile Dash, which has been in circulation since October 2006, and brings such features as 3G support, GPS, and an updated design.
Pricing and availability
The Dash 3G will be available from T-Mobile starting on July 8 for $169.99 with a two-year contract. The price is slightly on the higher end when compared with some of its competitors. For example, Verizon Wireless will offer its own version of the device called the HTC Ozone, which will cost $49.99 with a two-year contract.
Sprint HTC Snap vs. T-Mobile Dash 3G
We much preferred T-Mobile's version of the smartphone to Sprint's. The Dash 3G boasts a slimmer design and features a soft-touch finish that gives the device a more high-quality feel, whereas the Sprint HTC Snap is slick and plasticky.
Slim and trim
The Dash 3G is quite the compact device at 4.5 inches tall by 2.4 inches wide by 0.4 inch thick and 4.2 ounces.
Pocket-friendly
Given its smaller size, you should have no problem slipping the smartphone into a pants or jacket pocket.
The Dash 3G's display
The T-Mobile Dash 3G features a 2.4-inch nontouch screen that display 65,000 colors at a 320x240-pixel resolution. While clear and bright, it's a little on the smaller side so if you're reading a long e-mail or viewing a Web page, there's a bit of scrolling involved.
Navigation controls
The trackball navigator makes scrolling through pages easier. Other controls include two soft keys, Talk and End buttons, a Home shortcut, and a back button.
QWERTY keyboard
Despite the smartphone's compact size, the T-Mobile Dash 3G has a pretty good keyboard. The buttons are large and have a nice, curved shape, making them easy to press.
Upgraded camera
The Dash 3G gets an upgraded 2-megapixel camera with various shooting modes, including video and panorama. You also get the usual tools, such as brightness levels, white balance settings, and flicker adjustment.
Not too shabby
We were pretty happy with picture quality. Images were clear and colors weren't washed out.
