Springpad

Springpad is half note-taking app, half digital personal assistant. You can save text notes, voice recordings, and to-do lists, but the app really shines when you search for and save movies, TV shows, books, and general products. Springpad will format your note appropriately and even add some relevant information according to the category selected. For instance, add a movie, and you'll get a synopsis, release date, and cast information.

All My Stuff

The home screen shows all of your springs and there's a sidebar that gives you quick access to your notebooks.

Notebooks

You can group your springs into collections called notebooks. You can customize each notebook by giving it a name; choosing a color and design scheme, which includes a handful of textile, paper, and wood textures (such as denim and grid paper); and choosing to share it with others or keep it private so only you can view it. If you don't keep your notebook private, other Springpad users can see it when they browse public notebooks in the app.

A spring

The layout of each spring depends on the content, but most have a spot at the top for photos or a map, followed by text, tags, links to external Web sites, and a place to leave comments. Here is a bookmarked article from CNET with a video. You can watch that video from Springpad, but have to click over to the Web site to read the article.

Adding a spring

Tap the large yellow plus sign in the app and you'll be given several choices to add a new spring. Here I chose the location category, searched for a coffee shop near my location, and picked a shop. When I save my selection, the finished spring will have a map of the location and links to Yelp and Foursquare reviews.

Explore

Tap the search icon at the top of the screen to search all of your saved springs, as well as search for new things in each content category. If you tap the Explore button, you can browse other Springpad user's public boards.
