MSI Wind U160-007US

The bottom line: The basic-as-it-gets MSI Wind U160-007US is a leader in battery life, but shouldn't cost $80 more than comparable systems.

Samsung NB30

The bottom line: The Samsung NB30 is a new iteration on a standard Netbook theme, with a few slightly ruggedized features that don't quite justify the inflated price.

Asus Eee PC 1005PR

The bottom line: A rare 10-inch system with an HD display, the Eee PC 1005PR also adds HD video playback hardware for a well-priced step-up Netbook experience.

Fujitsu LifeBook MH380

The bottom line: Yet another Atom N450 Netbook in a sea of me-too competitors, the awkwardly designed Fujitsu Lifebook MH380 doesn't perform well enough or include anything unique to justify its higher price.

Asus Eee PC 1001P

The bottom line: This entry-level version of the popular Eee PC Netbook, the 1001P, is just as good as slightly more expensive versions, making it a solid default choice.

Lenovo ThinkPad X100e

The bottom line: The ThinkPad x100e is the ThinkPad that Netbook users have been dreaming of, with one of the best keyboards we've ever tested. Unfortunately, its performance, though better than that of Atom Netbooks, comes at the cost of battery life.

Dell Inspiron Mini iM1012

The bottom line: This retail version of Dell's Mini 10 Netbook, called the iM1012-687OBK, has a great battery, but chances are it's sitting on a shelf right next to a less expensive Netbook with a bigger hard drive.

Samsung NP-N210

The bottom line: Though it has some useful software tools, there's nothing special about the Samsung NP-N210-JA02US's components or performance. At $379, it's much more expensive than comparable Netbooks.

Asus Eee PC 1005PEB

The bottom line: This retail version of the popular Eee PC Netbook, the 1005PEB, hits the required notes, and is a little less expensive than many other retail Netbooks (but more than some online models).

HP Mini 210 HD

The bottom line: The versatile HP Mini 210 adds best-of features from other HP laptops, but the HD video card requires a still-in-beta Flash update for streaming Flash video.
