BARCELONA, Spain--LG offered an early peek at its new smartphones on the day before Mobile World Congress began. Though each handset was impressive in its own right, the 4X HD is arguably the most noteworthy of the pack. Not only does it come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's also powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. The candy bar design is pretty standard, though you can't miss the sharp 4.7-inch HD display. It offered great color resolution and slick graphics and animation.
In a unique and rather awesome move, LG added an indicator at the top-left corner of the 4X HD's display that shows how many cores of the processor are being used at a given time. So when you're just viewing the home screen, for example, only one core is running.
LG promises that the 4X H's 2,140mAh battery (right) will be able to keep up with its processing prowess. We'll have to see how the company's promises hold up when we get a review unit. The 1,500mAh battery on the left is from the LG Optimus 2X.
