Plants vs. Zombies 2 gives same great gameplay with new themed worlds (pictures)

Plants vs. Zombies 2 has the same great cartoonlike graphics, but remains a challenging and incredibly addictive tower (garden?) defense game.

Grow your defenses

Plants vs. Zombies 2 brings more of the same great gameplay with tons of interaction onscreen as you keep the zombies at bay.

Explore Ancient Egypt

The first world you need to complete is Ancient Egypt, and it's packed with pharaoh-themed variations of zombies.

Sail the Pirate Seas

On the Pirate Seas, each level has a new look and extra challenges as you try to stop zombies from boarding your ship.

Special challenges

You'll need to earn stars to open up new worlds. In this particular star challenge, you'll need to keep the zombies from crossing the line of flowers in order to get the star.

Study the enemy

Open up the almanac to look at all the zombies you've faced so far and see the stats for each.

Sun Bonus vs. Sun Boost

You can also look at the almanac to see the possible upgrades. Notice that the Sun Bonus (for purchase) does the same thing as the Sun Boost (unlockable), but you'll have to pay for the Sun Bonus to get 50 sun bonus at the start of a level instead of just 25.

Some plants now cost you

The Snow Pea was a plant you unlocked early in the original game, but in Plants vs. Zombies 2 you'll need to buy it. Fortunately there are not that many plants that are for purchase only.

Go to the store

Some plants for purchase are merely enhancements (like the Imitater), but old staples from the original game such as the Squash, Snow Pea, and Jalapeno are behind the pay wall.
