During press days for the 2008 New York auto show, Mitsubishi drove its electric iMiEV up and down the hall, because it could. While gas-powered cars were prohibited from driving in the hall, the iMiEV was allowed to troll by the booths of its automotive competitors.
The iMiEV is an electric version of Mitsubishi's i car, a model on sale in Japan with a small gas engine. The car's name starts with the model, i, and ends in MiEV, and acronym for Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicle.
The iMiEV uses one electric motor to power the rear wheels. Mitsubishi's electric vehicle efforts, under the MiEV moniker, first focused on using in-wheel motors, but Mitsubishi scrapped that idea in the current version of the iMiEV.
