Photos: Hands-on with the 10-hour Samsung N120 netbook

We've got our grubby hands on the brand-new, gleaming white Samsung N120 -- a 10-inch netbook you'll do well not to confuse with Samsung's N110, NC20, NC10 or N310 netbooks. Quite how Samsung decides whether a netbook should have an N, an NC, three numbers or just two in the product name is beyond us -- but we reckon its marketing people are doing it just to mess with us. And it's working.

Anyway, the N120 is the follow-up to the fabulous NC10. Its main selling point is its high-capacity six-cell 5,700mAh battery pack, which, according to Samsung, can offer battery life of up to 10.5 hours. We're in the process of testing these claims independently, but we're not holding out much hope, since the Eee PC 1000HE (which has an 8,700mAh battery) lasted 'just' 10 hours using very similar hardware.

Other changes include a slightly larger chassis. This makes the 1,024x600-pixel screen look smaller than it actually is, but it means the N120 can accommodate a full-size laptop keyboard. Next time we decide to type while being chauffeured in an ERC rally car, this is the netbook we'll take along for the ride.

The rest of the N120 is standard fare. You get an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and a silver nano anti-bacterial keyboard that should help keep you safe from bird/pig/donkey flu, and ease your conscience if you decide to use the N120 while you're on the loo (you sick puppy). Have a look at the pictures in our gallery for a closer look and come back in a few days for a full review.

Update: our Samsung N120 review is now live on the site.

No surprises here. The right side sports mic and headphone jacks, one USB port, and a D-Sub video output port.

Regular as clockwork here too -- power, Ethernet and two USBs. The lid has a nice matte finish, but this white version is prone to attracting grime.

The keyboard is the same size as those you get on full-size laptops, so the N120 is arguably the most usable netbook on the market.
