Oyster book subscription

Taking a cue from Netflix, Oyster is a $10 monthly subscription that lets you read as many books as you can. You can download any number of books from the catalog, which includes a mix of classic literature and contemporary titles. The app's stunning design makes it a pleasure to use.

Browsing genres

Oyster is organized into genres, so you can browse books that fit your tastes. There's an entire page in the app, shown above, dedicated to these genres.

Curated lists

The team at Oyster has also created curated lists of books to help you find something to read. The one above is "Famous Reading Lists," which features lists from Hillary Clinton, Ira Glass, and James Patterson.

Reading a book

Each book includes the same text and photos you'd find in the print version, but often times the formatting and other design elements are streamlined in e-book form. To flip the pages in a book, just swipe your finger or tap on the edges of the screen.

Get personal

You can customize your reading experience by changing the text size and font style. There are five different themes to chose from.

Night mode

Oyster also includes a night view, which gives the app a black background that's easier on the eyes when you're in a dark room.
