Nike+ SportsWatch GPS (photos)
CNET gets a hands-on look at Nike's newest GPS sports watch powered by TomTom.
Nike+ SportWatch GPS
TomTom and Nike joined forces at CES to announce the SportWatch GPS. It features TomTom GPS inside and, when used in tandem with the included Nike+ shoe sensor, tracks position and pace data while running.
Powered by TomTom
Aimed squarely at Garmin's Forerunner GPS watch, the SportWatch GPS benefits from integration with Nike's established Nike+ software package and community.
Sporty color scheme
The SportWatch GPS is TomTom's first "outdoor" product. The watch features an interesting black on green design and a waterproof casing that can be worn in the rain or in the shower.
Integrated USB connection
Nike+ data is synced to Nike's online hub for runners at Nikeplus.com using this clever USB connection hidden in the SportWatch GPS' strap.
Memory LCD display
The unit uses a memory LCD display that can be tapped to activate a backlight. When running, users can also tap the watch to mark laps without having to aim for small buttons.
Physical controls
The unit features a simple three-button control scheme, two buttons for scrolling up and down and a single green button for selection. Nike and TomTom claim that they wanted to keep the interface simple. Based on our inspection, we think they were fairly successful.
