The Nexus S is a collaboration between Samsung and Google. It's the first smartphone to run the Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread, and will be available from Best Buy stores and online on December 16. You can purchase the smartphone unlocked for $529 or with a two-year contract with T-Mobile for $199.

Gingerbread features

Gingerbread includes such new features as an improved keyboard with multitouch support, VoIP/SIP support, and a cleaner user interface. In addition, it has support for Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which allows the wireless exchange of data between two objects over short distances for uses, such as mobile payments.

The Nexus S features an embedded NFC chip. Other specs include a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, a gyroscope sensor, and 16GB of internal memory.

Contour display

Like the Galaxy S series, the Nexus S has a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen. However, the display also has a contour design to give the smartphone a more ergonomic feel when held to the user's face.
