New pictures reveal more clues from 'Sherlock' Victorian special

Take a closer look at newly released BBC images of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, Inspector Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, Mary Morstan and the potential bride herself, Emilia Ricoletti, from the January 1 special.

Bad weather brings bad tidings?

Over Thanksgiving weekend, the BBC released a treasure trove of promo images for "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride," a one-off 90-minute special set to air January 1.

Snow can't keep Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) off a case for long.

Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington) -- also known as Mrs. Watson -- may look like a fine lady who understands social protocol, but that doesn't mean she won't find some mischief to get into during the upcoming "Sherlock" special.

Landlady of 221B Baker Street, Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs), seems just as frustrated with Sherlock's living habits in this special as she does in the modern-day series.

Lestrade is on the case

In the original stories, Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) not only often consults with Sherlock Holmes, he has the upmost respect for him.

"We're not jealous of you down at Scotland Yard. No, sir, we are proud of you, and if you come down to-morrow there's not a man, from the oldest inspector to the youngest constable, who wouldn't be glad to shake you by the hand," Lestrade tells Holmes in "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons."

The mustache returns

Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) wears a mustache that was popular in the Victorian era. His modern-day equivalent would be proud.
