Nest's smart home lineup gets an upgrade (pictures)
A Nest Cam, a new Nest Protect, and a redesigned Nest App highlighted the company's big day of announcements.
A whole new Nest
At a press event in San Francisco, Nest announced a whole new product lineup. The company then showed off a new Nest Protect, a Nest Cam and a Nest app.
Nest Cam
It was leaked a couple of weeks ago, but today marked the official announcement of the Nest Cam.
Nest Cam
The Nest Cam looks a lot like the Dropcam Pro, which isn't too surprising, since Nest owns Dropcam.
Nest Cam
It'll feature 1080p HD resolution, night vision, motion and sound alerts. It'll even have twice as many pixels as Dropcam for the same $200 price.
Nest App
You'll be able to see a live feed from your Nest Cam on your phone.
Nest App
Nest's new app will feature home screens for the Cam, the Nest Protect and the Nest Learning Thermostat.
Nest App
One app will allow you to manage all three.
Nest Protect
The devices can work together as well. When the Nest Protect detects fire or carbon monoxide, it can send a signal to the Nest Thermostat.
Nest Protect
The Thermostat can shut off your furnace to stop any further leaks and hopefully save lives.
Nest Protect
The second-gen Nest Protect will also let you silence an alarm with your phone and can tell the difference between smoke and steam.
Nest Protect
It's pretty technically impressive. A split-spectrum sensor can differentiate between a slow fire and a quick one, and it's built to last ten years.
Nest Protect
The new Nest Protect will retail for $100 -- the same price as the first Nest Protect -- when it hits the market next month.
