Mini Cooper modernized (pictures)
Mini showed off the 2014 version of the Mini Cooper hatchback at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, but while this new model has been drastically updated, you would hardly know it at first glance.

The 2014 Mini Cooper S, shown here, gains a few inches in length, although it retains its classic looks.
The Cooper's wheels can range from 15 to 18 inches, depending on options and trim levels.
The base Mini Cooper hatchback, shown here, will be the least expensive in the line-up.
LED headlights can be had as an option in the new Cooper.
As previously, the hood covers the entire front of the car, opening up around the headlights.
For the Cooper S, Mini uses a 2-liter engine with direct injection and a twin-scroll turbo, producing 192 horsepower.
The base Mini Cooper gets a drastically redesigned engine, going from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder to a 1.5-liter three-cylinder. The smaller engine generates greater power through the use of direct injection and a turbo.
The redesigned car offers more interior space and lighter weight.
The Mini Cooper remains a front-wheel drive car, yet has a sophisticated rear suspension.
The redesigned cabin moves the speedometer from the center of the dashboard to a spot in front of the driver.
With base electronics in the cabin, the Cooper gets a monochrome screen for stereo and phone functions.
This new controller, present on cars with navigation or an upgraded electronics display, borrows heavily from BMW iDrive.
With its enhanced cabin electronics display, a color LCD shows icons for the various cabin tech functions.
Mini Connected integrates with a smartphone app to offer a variety of data-driven features.
