Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class: A new name and a new look (pictures)
Mercedes-Benz showed off its newly renamed GLC-Class, formerly the GLK, with a new, larger body, technologies and a new look.
Mercedes-Benz renamed its GLK medium-size SUV the GLC for the 2016 model year.
Along with the new name, the GLC receives a top-to-bottom redesign, measuring about 6 inches longer than its predecessor.
Under the hood, the GLC300, the version launching in the US, will receive a 2-liter four-cylinder engine, turbocharged to produce 241 horsepower.
Where the GLK had a more vertical rear, the GLC shows off a raked hatch.
An air suspension and all-wheel drive will be optionally available on the new model.
Mercedes-Benz has done great things with its air suspension technology in its larger cars, making them exceedingly comfortable and giving them excellent handling.
The all-wheel-drive system splits torque 45:55 front-to-rear. A rear-wheel-drive version will also be available.
Mercedes-Benz's raft of sensor technology will be available for the GLC.
Mercedes-Benz's recent interior design across its model range is simplified and elegant.
Cabin technologies, such as navigation and digital audio, will be available, if not standard, but Mercedes-Benz's Internet-connected features have not performed well in recent models.
Four different drive models will affect throttle response, handling, ride quality and shifting.
