Los Angeles Auto Show: 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe (photos)

Cadillac's CTS sedan has proved a cornucopia for the company, leading to the high performance CTS-V and CTS Sports Wagon. Now Cadillac is ready to launch the CTS Coupe, a two door version with some dramatic design cues.

Still showing the sharp edges of the CTS Sedan, the new CTS Coupe does away with the rear doors, using a completely different design around the sides and rear. The Coupe also loses 2 inches of height from the Sedan, giving it a flatter look. The Cadillac CTS Coupe hits showrooms next year.

The CTS Coupe uses electronic door handles, with a switch inside the door sill to unlatch the doors from the outside, allowing for smoother sides.

The high back-end of the Coupe gives it a hatchback look, but Cadillac kept a trunk on the car, and 2+2 seating inside. Rear visibility becomes limited with the Coupe design, so Cadillac fits it with a rearview camera for driving in reverse.

The power train in the CTS Coupe is the same as in the Sedan, a 3.6-liter direct injection V-6 producing 304 horsepower. Buyers will have a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic transmission. A limited slip differential is standard. Cadillac will also launch a V version next year, which should feature the same engine as the CTS-V Sedan, a supercharged 6.3-liter V-8.

The tailpipe configuration on the CTS Coupe changes drastically from the Sedan, bringing traditional round twin pipes into this side-by-side dual tip with a rectangular look. This look fits the angular design of the body.

The cabin tech in the CTS Coupe is the same system as in the Sedan, a hard drive-based navigation system with live traffic, iPod integration, Bose audio system, and a Bluetooth phone system.
