Is 3D on smartphones for real or just a gimmick? Take a look at the latest 3D smartphone, the LG Thrill 4G for AT&T.

LG Thrill 4G

Announced at CTIA 2011, the LG Thrill 4G is the U.S. version of the LG Optimus 3D and will be available through AT&T for $99.99 with a two-year contract. An official release date has not been announced at this time.

Features

The Thrill 4G features a 4.3-inch glasses-free 3D display and comes preloaded with 3D games, apps, and video. In many ways, the 3D experience is better on the Thrill than on the HTC Evo 3D, but the rest of the phone's features and performance was a bit average.

Design

The Thrill has a very solid design, but it's also rather large and heavy at 5.07 inches tall by 2.67 inches wide by 0.47 inch deep and 5.93 ounces.

Left spine

On the phone's left side, you'll find a Micro-USB port and an HDMI port. An HDMI cable is included in the box.

A power/lock button and 3.5mm headphone jack reside on top of the device.

Cameras

On back, you'll find dual 5-megapixel cameras, which can be used to take 2D and 3D photos. Even if you take a photo in 2D, you can add a 3D effect afterward, though the quality is better if you shoot in 3D from the get-go.

Picture quality

Unfortunately, picture quality wasn't that great. Even with a flash, images taken in low-light conditions looked soft and washed out.
