LG plays it smart with massive TVs, new phones (photos)
Consumer electronics maker takes advantage of CES to reveal an 84-inch "ultra-resolution" TV, a 55-inch 3D OLED TV at 4mm thick, a smartphone with VMWare, and another with HD video from ESPN.
Consumer electronics maker LG took advantage of the CES 2012 spotlight on Monday to reveal an 84-inch "ultra-resolution" TV, a 55-inch 3D OLED TV at 4mm thick, a smartphone with VMWare, and another with HD video from ESPN.
Here, LG focuses on the 84-inch display.
The flat-screen TV includes a 1mm bezel.
The set will allow a viewer to use gestures (as well as voice recognition) to control the set.
The set will feature the L9 chipset.
LG's smart TVs will include Google TV.
LG is working to improve passive 3D viewing.
LG also touted its "true" HD displays.
Another example of "true" HD.
LG is focusing more on smart appliances as well, especially smart fridges.
The smart technology can do things such as checking whether you need to buy more of something, whether food is going bad, and whether to take into consideration dietary restrictions.
Dietary restrictions cover more than just diets.
Possibly the funnest smart function: a "blast chiller" than can lower the temperature of a can of soda in less than five minutes.
LG says that half its line of TVS this year will include both 3D and smart TV functions.
On to smartphones, the new LG Spectrum will include HD video from ESPN.
The Android-based Spectrum will be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich.
