Lexus showcases the 2014 IS F-Sport at SEMA
LAS VEGAS -- Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like the 2013 SEMA Show was just full of black-and-white 2014 Lexus IS sedans. Okay, maybe not full of 'em, but I'm sure that I spotted about a half dozen of them peppering the expanses of the show.
Seibon IS 350 F-Sport
Most of the vehicles that Lexus previewed were scattered around the show. This IS 350 F-Sport, displayed in the Seibon booth, features extensive Seibon carbon fiber bodywork and sits atop 20-inch Volk Racing G27 wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires and A'Pexi N1 dampers. A'Pexi also manufactures the axleback dual exhaust system.
Carbon fiber
The carbon fiber components on the Seibon IS 350 F-Sport are exposed. Look closely at the hood, trunklid, side skirts, or front or rear lips and you'll see the weave of the lightweight composite.
DeviantArt Design Challenge IS F-Sport
However, one white IS F-Sport stood above the others at the show -- it was literally placed on a pedestal in the automaker's booth.
The DeviantArt Design Challenge IS F-Sport is a winning design chosen from over 600 submissions from the DeviantArt online art community.
Digital design comes to life
The winning design, penned by Robert Evans, was brought to life by VIP Auto Salon over the course of 10 weeks and features a one-of-a-kind aero styling package.
Satin white paint
The IS F-Sport's crazy bodywork is coated with a custom, satin-white paint job that makes the creases really pop. The result is a design that's so mad it makes the IS sedan's crazy headlamp-and-LED combo look rather understated.
Flared body
To call the DeviantArt Design Challenge IS F-Sport a "wide-body" seems like a bit of an understatement. Flared bodywork at the front and rear corners protrudes as far from the main chassis as far as most cars' wheels are wide.
Stretched tires
The sedan's wide, deep-rimmed wheels are shod with stretched tires. Look at the wheel straight on and you can see that the rim's lip protrudes away from the rubber of the tire. It's not my cup of tea, but the trendy "Stance" crowd seems to like it.
Visually widened
The lower portion of the rear bumper is painted matte black, which visually makes the already physically wide DeviantArt Challenge IS F-Sport appear even wider.
Forged wheels
Forged three-piece, 20-inch Nutek wheels fill those wide wheel wells and are, in turn, filled themselves with big brakes.
2014 IS 250 F-Sport by Paul Tolson & Gabriel Escobedo
After the DeviantArt Challenge car, this 2014 IS 250 F-Sport's all-metal wide body kit, 19-inch wheels, and flashy paint seem just a bit less impractical.
2007 IS 250 by Andrew Atigehchi
Back in the Lexus booth, the DeviantArt IS F-Sport is flanked on one side by a matte black example of the second-generation Lexus IS. This 2007 IS 250 is presented by its owner, Andrew Atigehchi, and features 20-inch wheels, an aero package, and F-Sport performance accessories.
Multielement LED lamps
The custom body kit is punctuated by multielement LED driving and fog lamps embedded in the bumper.
2004 IS 300 by Maricar Cortez
On the other side of the mad, matte third-generation IS, there's an example of the first-generation IS sedan. Owner Maricar Cortez brings this 2004 IS 300 to the show with a Prolex Performance Supercharger, custom dual exhaust, and JDM Altezza grille.
