Keeping tabs on Canary's smart security device (pictures)
With an HD camera and helpful sensors, this little guy wants to keep an eye on your living room.
Canary Smart Home Security Device
Canary is an all-in-one home security gadget that's available now following a hugely successful crowdfunding push in 2013. Click through to see what it can do.
What's in the box
Canary keeps it simple, shipping with a power cable and a yellow auxiliary cable that you'll use to sync it with your smartphone during setup.
Color options
Canary is available in other colors, too -- a black model and a grey one.
The ring
The LED ring on Canary's underside glows green when the system is armed, yellow when it's disarmed.
Homehealth
From Canary's home screen, you can tap the temperature and humidity readings to access "Homehealth" graphs of the conditions in your home.
Air quality
Don't expect to sneak a smoke around Canary without getting caught.
Video feed
Whenever the system gets triggered, Canary records a clip and saves it to the cloud. You can view these clips in the Canary app.
Picture quality
Canary's 1080p camera has an 147-degree field of view, and offers pretty exceptional picture quality.
Night vision
Our test floor has no windows and gets pitch black at night, but Canary's night-vision camera still offered outstanding detail in the dark.
Auto-arming
Canary detects as you come and go, and automatically arms and disarms accordingly. There's also a privacy mode that'll disable the camera and microphone.
Price point
Canary costs $250, and sells in major retail outlets across the US. Is it worth it? Read our full review to see what we think.
