The Piper NV makes the most of DIY security (pictures)
The $269 Piper NV brings home security and automation together in a new way.
The Piper NV costs $269.
It looks similar to the first-generation Piper, which is still available for $199.
The NV adds night vision and an improved 3.4-megapixel camera sensor (the original Piper has a 2.0-megapixel sensor).
The night vision looks good, but best at a distance to make out features.
The NV's 180-degree fish-eye lens can see a lot.
Its free Android or iOS app lets you set specific Home, Away and Vacation alerts.
You can also add Z-Wave devices and set rules for them within the app.
The NV is available in white and black.
It's designed to be plugged into an outlet, but also comes with backup batteries.
You can have as many as five Piper NVs on one account.
