BARCELONA, Spain -- Huawei took the wraps off the TalkBand B1, its first wearable tech product, at its Mobile World Congress press conference. It was one of five new products the China-based manufacturer unveiled at the show.
The TalkBand, seen here next to the original Pebble, is actually not quite a smartwatch, however.
Pop the TalkBand unit out of its wristband, and you'll see it actually doubles as a Bluetooth headset.
The unit connects to the band via electrical contacts, seen here.
The band also doubles as the USB connector when charging.
The TalkBand boasts a 1.4-inch OLED screen (but it's not a touch screen).
The TalkBand hits the expected health tracker bullet points -- steps, calories burned, sleep tracking -- and it's IP57 water- and dust-resistant, so it can be worn in the shower.
The TalkBand has 7 hours of talk time and 2 weeks of standby capability. Huawei talked it up as an accessory to the MediaPad X1 tablet (both are shown here).
The TalkBand B1 will be available for 99 euros soon -- though details on exact dates and locations haven't yet been clarified.
