Huawei M735 (photos)

The Huawei M735 isn't a bad phone by any means, but a decision to use a resistive touch screen with a stylus will keep it out of the running for some.

New school meets old school

The Huawei M735 is sure to grab your attention. It's a white phone for starters, not a usual phone color, but one that many users demand, if uproar over the elusive white iPhone 4 has taught us anything.

Interface and screen

It's not a smartphone, but the M735 does have multiple home screens, a touch-sensitive display, and widgets. It's important to note that the screen technology is resistive rather than capacitive, so you have to press harder...

Return of the stylus

...or you can use the stylus tucked into the bottom right corner of the back cover. The implement is often easier than using your fingers on the smallish screen.

Side features

The volume rocker and camera shutter are on the right spine. There's also a 3.5mm headset jack and a Micro-USB charging port.

Why you need a stylus

There's no accelerometer, so you need to press a button on the cramped virtual dial pad to switch to virtual QWERTY keyboard mode. For many, the buttons will be too small to comfortably use the keyboard with fingertips alone.

Petite

The M735 is fairly petite overall.

OK camera

The 3-megapixel camera will get you a decent photo, and the M735 does better than many other shooters when it comes to brightening indoor shots. It's still no substitute for a point-and-shoot.
