The HTC Gratia, a new smart phone running Android 2.2, will arrive in the UK in early 2011.

The European version of the US-only HTC Aria, it has a 600MHz processor, a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 640x480-pixel resolution, and a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus. A microSD card slot takes care of storage, providing up to 32GB of space.

The phone also packs an accelerometer, digital compass, proximity sensor and ambient-light sensor. It has Bluetooth 2.1, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. There's been no word on pricing or network availability, but the phone should hit UK stores in the first three months of 2011.

At first glance, the Gratia looks like a slightly smaller and lighter version of the HTC Wildfire. Like other Android phones from HTC, the operating system will have HTC's Sense user interface laid on top.

Recently, Android fans have been moistening their undergarments in anticipation of the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z, which have high-end specifications and price tags to match. The Gratia would be more suitable for those who want a smaller and cheaper Android device.

In terms of specs, the Gratia is comparable to theLG Optimus Chic, an entry-level Android phone with a 5-megapixel camera and a 3.2-inch touchscreen. But the Gratia's screen has a higher resolution -- the Chic's display is home to only 320x480 pixels.

The Gratia looks like a decent Android handset for those who want to save some funds. Expect a review as soon as we can get our hands on the device, and click through our photo gallery to see the phone from a few more angles.
