From the front, the Desire HD looks almost identical to the Evo 4G. The touch controls below the display differ slightly, but the 4.3-inch touch screen has an equally impressive resolution.

The Desire HD has the latest version of HTC's Sense user interface. By pressing the home key, you can jump directly to a menu that shows all seven home screens. Alternatively, you also can swipe between the home screens in the normal manner.

The virtual keyboard has a spacious design. You can use it in both landscape and portrait orientations.

Since the HTC Desire HD lacks physical keys, you'll have to dial numbers using a virtual keypad.

Though the large display makes it rather hefty, the HTC Desire has a thin profile. The volume rocker rests on its left spine.

The Desire HD lacks the Evo 4G's kickstand, but the lens for its 8-megapixel camera sticks out slightly. Most of the back cover is metal, but the darker panels on the bottom and left sides are plastic. The former hides the SIM card, and the latter covers the battery slot.
