Speciality: nightscapes, time-lapse photography, astro photography

Biography: Alex is an IT consultant during the day, and a keen astronomer and photographer at night, with a particular interest in time-lapse photography. He has had images published in various astronomy magazines, and has won a number of international awards.

Alex lives in Melbourne, and is an active member of the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society. He enjoys spending moonless nights observing and photographing the night sky, as well as helping people to get involved with astronomy at public viewing nights.

Awards: Starmus Astrophotography Competition overall winner (2011); International Earth and Sky Photo Contest by The World At Night, second prize (2011); The 2011 South Pacific Star Party AstroImaging competition, overall winner; David Malin Astrophotogrpahy Awards, Honorable Mention (2010); NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day: July 5, 2010; August 3rd, 2010; August 23, 2010; July 4th 2011.

Equipment: Nikon D700, Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, Nikkor 30mm f/1.4G, Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED Fish-eye, Sony NEX-5 (spectrum modified), SEL 18-55mm, SEL 16mm, 2000mm f/3.6 Newtonian telescope, Nodal Ninja 5 Panoramic Head, Stellarium, Nikon Capture NX2, Adobe Photoshop CS5 and PTGUI Pro.
