Easily track packages on iPhone or iPad (photos)

Keeping track of shipments and packages can be a real pain. Thankfully apps like Delivery Status touch exist to help make our lives easier. Take a look at the overall design, features and layout of this iOS app and OS X widget.

On the left you can see a list of current packages and shipments being tracked. The color of each item is indicative of the shipping provider. The number of days indicated on the left of each item is the number of days until expected delivery. For example; brown is UPS and purple is FedEx.


On the right, you can see the last scanned location of the package (the map view is only available on the iPad). Below the map, users can can elect to view the status on the Web site of the shipping provider, or e-mail the details of the shipment to a contact.

As you can see, users aren't taken out of the app to view the packages status on the shipping provider's Web site. The streamlined experience of being able to stay within the app to track the package, even on the shipping company's Web site demonstrates how well thought out the app truly is.

With a tap of a button users can e-mail the delivery details to a friend or colleague. If the recipient has the app installed on his or her iOS device of choice, they can add the item to be tracked to their device by clicking the Add to Delivery Status link.

Here you can enter the tracking or order number into the app. Once the number is entered, the app automatically changes the From field to the carrier or vendor the number belongs to.

The list of carriers and providers is long, and international at that. This is just one portion of a list that covers over 30 carriers, with the ability for users to manually enter services that aren't already listed.

In the settings screen, users can either let the app sort shipments by last entered, or by remaining days until delivery. Here users can also set up the sync service Junecloud provides free of charge.

To make entering shipments even easier, the iPhone app allows users to scan a barcode with the iPhone camera. Once the barcode is scanned, the proper shipping company is selected and the tracking number is automatically populated for the user.

The OS X widget uses the same layout and color-coding format as the iOS app. Each time the Dashboard is opened, Delivery Status touch will refresh. When you click on a listed package, you will be taken to the shipping providers Web site to view further details.
