CNET opens the doors of perception for VR Day (pictures)

On Wednesday, CNET opened its doors to hundreds of early adopters curious to experience virtual reality. We made the Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR and HTC Vive available for demos. So, what did they think?

"It was fun. Actually really interesting to see the 360 views. Everytime I wanted to reload I kept shooting. For short periods of time I could use it. I'm worried about motion sickness. But for short periods of time it was a great experience." - Richard

"I love it. I think the potential for content is really cool. I imagine the Travel Channel on VR, or House Beautiful home porn tours -- more of a lifestyle experience, I guess.

I've tried VR over the past couple of years, and I have to say it feels a lot better now. I did a roller coaster ride at the Samsung Galaxy Studio a few of weeks ago, and it was the first time I'd had that body experience where you had the feeling of your stomach dropping. It was amazing. I could see an amusement park setting up shop. I'd pay money for that.

I feel like the adoption is still really challenging. That's a big piece. It's expensive. It doesn't feel like it's needed. And if I'm watching TV, I'm usually watching it with someone else." - Liina

"It's pretty cool. I'm fixing a car right now. It's pretty immersive. There's instant feedback. You could get lost in that -- like for hours." - Colin

"This is really weird. You lose yourself completely. You look around and you are there. And then when I took the headphones off and I hear someone talking, it is strange -- it throws you off. You are immersed in this world and then I take it off and 'Oh wow.' Here I am back in the real world. Here I am at CNET!" - Yves

"It's pretty cool. It's like being somewhere. It's pretty immersive. But some things take you out of it, like the refresh rate or flickering on surfaces. In a game it's a better experience because you are paying attention to the details of the gameplay." - Clifford.

"I think it's fantastic. I have used the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 [DK2] before. The tracking is fantastic. It feels 1 to 1. Resolution improvement over DK2 is not as good as I expected. The hand movement and responsiveness is great." - Arsalan

"I feel like the content has come a long way since I first tried it a year or so ago. The Invasion clip was cool. I watched the sports stuff, and it doesn't feels that exciting to watch the sports to me. The Martian clip didn't look as realistic as it should have. The animation stuff is cool because you know it's not real. It was convincing. I loved 'The Jungle Book.'" - June
