Chevrolet Voltec 240-volt home charging unit (photos)
GM unveiled Voltec, its affordable home charger for the Chevrolet Volt. If you're not one of the first 4,400 buyers of the Volt who will receive a free home charger courtesy of a Department of Energy grant, this wall-mountable unit is available for $490 plus installation, which can vary by region, but is expected to cost around $1,500.
Chevrolet's affordable wall charger can be purchased from and installed by SPX Service Solutions.
SPX Service Solutions will sell a range of home chargers in addition to GM's Voltec.
The Voltec 240-volt home charging unit can fully recharge a drained Volt battery in about 4 hours.
Using a standard 120-volt cord rather than a 240-volt charger will take twice as long to recharge the Volt.
