Check out the Vector smartwatch with 30 days of battery life (pictures)

We take a close-up look at the Vector smartwatch, which boasts 30-day battery life, smart functions and a cool metal design.

Say hello to a new face in the smartwatch arena. (Pun intended.)

The Vector smartwatch hopes to do battle against the goliaths of Google and Apple by offering something they don't: battery life.

Vector's watches boast up to 30 days of power from a single charge, which is a significant boost over the Android Wear devices we've so far used, which require charging pretty much every night.

It has a host of smart functions too, along with a neat metal design.

The watches will be going on sale this summer for $349 (£237) for the round Luna model seen here, or $199 (£135) for a rectangular Meridian model.

The round Luna will be available in a range of designs, including a rose gold model. Leather, rubber or metal link straps will be available too, letting you customise the watch to your own choice.

The display is monochrome, helping save power, and displays all the smart info you'd expect from a fully fledged smartwatch.

It'll track your activity and use that to estimate total numbers of calories burned throughout the day.

It'll show you how far you've gone too. It doesn't have GPS built in, so that figure will be an estimate based on the number of steps you've taken.

Sleep tracking is taken care of as well.

It links to your smartphone -- Android, iOS and even Windows Phone are supported -- on which you can customise the watch, load apps, set alarms and download new apps.

You can see a more detailed breakdown of your activity, too.

At the launch event, Vector emphasised the importance of the watch not to intrude on your life. As such, notifications appear only as a thick line around the screen as shown here.

If you want to read the notification, a flick of the wrist shows the message.

Here's the square Meridian.

It has a full metal body, making it feel every bit as premium as a good watch should be.

The display is easy to read. It's not touch-enabled however. Instead, you navigate using three buttons on the side. How easy this is to use in a hurry remains to be seen.
