Check out the cheap and cheerful Nokia Lumia 735 (pictures)

Come on in and take a look at the low-cost Lumia 735's pretty, colourful cases and 720p screen.

This is the Nokia Lumia 735. It's a 4.7-inch phone running the latest Windows Phone 8.1 software, with a 720p display, quad-core processor and 4G LTE.

That's quite a cool little package and what's more, it won't cost you the Earth either.

Nokia says the Lumia 735 will go on sale throughout Europe later this year for around €219, which converts to around £175, $290 and AU$310. Firm pricing and regional availability is yet to be announced.

With its one-piece, rounded plastic back, the phone is physically quite similar to the older Lumia 800.

Unlike the Lumia 800, however, the back panels are removable. There's a range of colourful cases to choose from.

That's a 6.7-megapixel camera on the back, with a 5-megapixel camera on the front. The front camera has a wide-angle lens too, to help you cram more of your friends into those selfies.

It's slim and comfortable to hold in one hand.

There's a 1.2GHz quad-core processor inside and it's all powered by a 2,200mAh battery, which I expect should provide at least a day of moderate use.

All of the cases have built-in NFC.

The latest update to Windows Phone 8.1 -- codenamed Denim -- is on the 735. It brings the Siri-like voice assistant Cortana to the UK and China. It also allows you to pop live tiles on your home screen into folders.

Windows Phone 8.1 is still easy to use, but still suffers from a lack of love from developers. You probably won't be a fan if you like being first in the queue for new apps and games.

The screen has a 720p resolution that seemed perfectly adequate in my hands-on time. Look out for a full review soon.
