Cadillac carries sedan styling into its newest SUV, the XT5 (pictures)

Cadillac softened its sharp-edged design for the CTS and ATS sedans, and now shows similar styling in its all-new XT5, a medium-sized SUV replacing the outgoing SRX.

The new models will use the XT nomenclature, which stands for "Crossover Touring." The number designation indicates where the vehicle fits among the lineup in size.

The XT5 benefits from a new generation of GM's direct injection 3.6-liter V-6 engine, making 310 horsepower and equipped with fuel-saving technologies such as idle-stop and cylinder deactivation.

Cadillac will offer the XT5 with a new all-wheel-drive system capable of moving 100 percent of torque from front to back, depending on traction, and also using active torque vectoring to improve handling.
