Open source
In 2010, BlackBerry, then known as RIM, was just dipping its toes into the open-source world, announcing it had open-sourced components from the platform on GitHub.
Ad network integration
Ad networks can plug into the developer platform as well. Developers can control how the service is used, which networks you use, or let the advertising service automatically bring the ad that will bring you the most revenue. BlackBerry said developers would get a 60 percent share of revenue.
