Meet Apple's new Macs (pictures)

Apple announced at the Apple Live event today two new Macs: a 27-inch iMac with a 5K Retina Display and a new Mac Mini with faster processors and other upgrades.

The new 27-inch iMac is the first Apple desktop computer that boasts the Retina Display.

The machine's display has 7 times the amount of pixels found in an 1080p HDTV. In fact, with the 5K resolution of 5,120x2,880, it has 25 percent more more pixels than even a 4K display.

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K Display

The new 27-inch iMac sports an Intel 3.5GHz Quad-core i5 processor (upgradable to 4GHz), 1TB of Fusion drive, AMD Radeon R9 295 graphics (upgradable to 295X), 8GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 32GB), and two Thunderbolt 2 ports. It starts at $2,499.

  • Four USB 3 ports (compatible with USB 2)
  • Two Thunderbolt 2 ports
  • Mini DisplayPort output with support for DVI, VGA and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately)
  • 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)
  • Kensington lock slot

Mac Mini

This is the first refresh of the Mac Mini in two years. The new mini desktop now has a fourth-generation Core i processor, Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Other than that, it has the same design as the previous model released in 2012.
