Apple Watch Series 2 unwrapped at iPhone 7 event in San Francisco

Apple unveiled its next generation smartwatch with a brighter screen, faster processor, water resistance and built-in GPS.

Apple Watch Series 2

The Apple Watch 2 is official, and it's waterproof.

The second-generation model, which is officially called Apple Watch Series 2, adds a faster processor, a larger battery and GPS, which can be used to measure pace, distance and speed when running and biking.

Pokemon Go on Apple Watch

The mega-hit mobile game Pokemon Go is coming to Apple Watch by the end of the year.

Not only will it let you keep your phone in your pocket while tracking down the imaginary creatures -- it'll track your steps and calories burned in real time, so you can integrate Pokemon Go into your fitness routine.

WatchOS 3

The Series 2 Watch will feature the next iteration of its operating system, WatchOS 3.

Announced back in June, it's seven times faster and will allow users to share activity data with friends and family members, which has long been featured fitness trackers from competitors Fitbit and Garmin.

There will also be a new app, called Breathe, that is designed to help users practice deep breathing.

New display

The Series 2 will feature a new screen that's twice the brightness of the original.

According to Apple, it's the brightest display the company has shipped on any product at 1,000 nits.

Dual-core processor

Apple has added a dual-core processor for twice the speed on the Series 2. The entirely new GPU also delivers twice the graphics performance.

Water resistance

The watch adheres to industry standards for water resistance up to 50 meters.

To achieve this, the company developed new seals and adhesives and closed all entry points. The redesigned system actually uses the speaker itself to eject water.

Swim fitness lab

Apple extended the work of its fitness lab for swimmers. It'll work to learn your stroke over time, while the algorithm gives you accurate burn information. Pool and underwater swim workouts have also been added.

Nike+ Series 2 Watch

The Nike+ version has a perforated band for sweat resistance while you run.

GPS

The new Series 2 adds built-in GPS to track your workouts. The activity app on the phone also shows your speed and route while you run.

Ceramic style

The Series 2 will come in a variety of aluminum and stainless steel styles, but the company also unveiled a new material: ceramic. The white ceramic watch has a pearl-like shine and is four times harder than stainless steel.

Hermes brings style

Apple has again partnered with luxury brand Hermes to bring new colors and two new bands for a luxurious feel.

To wrap up, the Apple Watch Series 2 is mainly about sports with new water-resistant swimming features, GPS, a better processor and a brighter screen.

Environmental standards

The Series 2 also adheres to Apple's strict environmental standards. Like all its devices, Apple wants the watch to be the ultimate device for a healthy life.

The Nike+ version of the Series 2 is specifically designed for runners.

Apple Watch Series 2

The Apple Watch Series 2 and the Nike+ version will both sell for $369. Preorders for the Series 2 will begin on September 9, with sales commencing a week later on September 16. The Nike+ version will be available in October.

The original Apple Watch gets a name upgrade to Series 1 in addition to a new dual-core processor. It'll sell for $269.
