Here's what the new iPhone SE looks like (pictures)

Six months after the release of the iPhone 6S, Apple today announced the iPhone SE. It's equally powerful but smaller, just about the size of the iPhone 5S that came out more than 3 years ago.

The iPhone SE is the new 4-inch iPhone from Apple. It has a screen size and appearance that's similar to the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone SE is basically the replacement of the iPhone 5S in Apple's lineup, and it has the same power as the iPhone 6S. Here it is next to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

On the outside, the new phone looks very similar to the iPhone 5S.

Even its edges and buttons are similar to those of the iPhone 5S.

Top graphics performance

On the inside, the new iPhone SE has the same graphics performance as the 6S, which is three times as fast as the 5S.

Better cameras

The iPhone SE sports a 12-megapixel iSight camera with focus pixels and True Tone flash and a new image signal processor. The phone also supports Live Photos, which add sound and movement to each photo. The front-facing camera now also supports Retina Flash.

4K content capable

The iPhone SE is the first 4-inch phone from Apple that can capture 4K video.

Longer battery life

The iPhone SE's battery life is superior to that of the iPhone 5S with up to 50 hours of audio playback, 13 hours of LTE Web browsing and 13 hours of 3G talking.

Latest processors

The phone is powered by the same processors as those on the iPhone 6S. Apple says the
M9 motion coprocessor connects to the accelerometer, compass and gyroscope for a range of fitness-tracking capabilities, such as measuring your steps and distance.

Fast connection speed

The iPhone SE has better broadband speed and also supports 802.11AC with a top Wi-Fi speed of 433Mbps, three times that of the iPhone 5S, but just half of what the iPhone 6S offers.

NFC and Touch ID supported

And just like the iPhone 6S, the iPhone SE supports NFC for Apple Pay, which can be quickly accessed via Touch ID. It doesn't feature 3D Touch, however.

It's a mini iPhone 6S

Basically, the iPhone SE is a mini version of the iPhone 6S that replaces the iPhone 5S.

Available March 31

The new iPhone SE is available in four colors and two capacities including 16GB and 64GB that cost $399 and $499, respectively. It's available for preorder beginning March 24 and goes on sale March 31. Read all about Apple's smallest iPhone here.
