Announcing Apple's 4G LTE iPad (photos)

The Wi-Fi version will cost $499.99, $599.99, and $699.99 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models. It'll launch March 16, but preorders start today.

Retina Display

The new iPad will feature a Retina Display with a 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution. That's 3.1 million pixels on the new iPad, or 264 pixels per inch.

5-megapixel camera

The next iPad comes with a 5-megapixel camera with backside illumination, autoexposure, and autofocus. There's also auto face detection. It includes 1080p HD video recording, just like on the iPhone 4S.

Sketchbook Ink app

A demo of SketchBook Ink, a new drawing app for line art. You can zoom in and out and it's resolution independent. That means you can work on and export art that's 100 megapixels in size. That app is available in April, exclusively for iOS.

Quad-core gaming...sort of

Infinity Blade is one of the games that will enjoy the blazing speeds that Apple promises with the iPad's souped-up processor. (Psst, the processor has a dual-core CPU, with a quad-core GPU for gaming.)

iPhoto can find similar photos for you when you double-tap an image, although it's not clear yet as to what it's going to consider similar.

The iMovie update lets you shoot movie trailers, and you can now shoot 1080p video right on the device, then plug the video right into the app.
