Retina Display
The new iPad will feature a Retina Display with a 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution. That's 3.1 million pixels on the new iPad, or 264 pixels per inch.
5-megapixel camera
The next iPad comes with a 5-megapixel camera with backside illumination, autoexposure, and autofocus. There's also auto face detection. It includes 1080p HD video recording, just like on the iPhone 4S.
Hot spot
You can use the new iPad as a portable hot spot.
Expanded battery life
Apple once again offers 10 hours of battery life, with 9 hours on 4G LTE.
Sketchbook Ink app
A demo of SketchBook Ink, a new drawing app for line art. You can zoom in and out and it's resolution independent. That means you can work on and export art that's 100 megapixels in size. That app is available in April, exclusively for iOS.
Quad-core gaming...sort of
Infinity Blade is one of the games that will enjoy the blazing speeds that Apple promises with the iPad's souped-up processor. (Psst, the processor has a dual-core CPU, with a quad-core GPU for gaming.)
iWork
All three of the iOS iWork apps were updated, adding several new features to each part of the productivity suite. Read our story on the new iWork apps updated .
GarageBand
The updated version of GarageBand is getting "smart strings," a note editor, iCloud integration, and sharing. Read our First Take on GarageBand here.
AppleTV
Apple introduces the Photostream feature from iCloud, which supports 1080p HD photos and videos. A new Apple TV is also on the horizon. It'll cost $99 and be available on March 16, but preorders start today.
iPhoto
iPad finally gets iPhoto! The app includes multitouch editing and photo beaming from device to device. It'll cost $4.99, starting today.
A closer look at iPhoto
There are a ton of effects and filters.
Finding similar photos
iPhoto can find similar photos for you when you double-tap an image, although it's not clear yet as to what it's going to consider similar.
iMovie
The iMovie update lets you shoot movie trailers, and you can now shoot 1080p video right on the device, then plug the video right into the app.
Enter Tim Cook
Apple CEO Tim Cook takes the stage to kick off the event. "In many ways the iPad is reinventing portable computing, and it's outstripping the wildest of predictions," he said.
Pwning it
Apple sold more iPads in a quarter than PCs combined, according to Apple's numbers.
