Samsung Galaxy Beam
Google I/O attracts attendees from around the world so it's only fitting that it should feature global Android phones as well. Along one wall at San Francisco's Moscone Center, Google displayed a gallery of Android handsets dating back to the G1. Many of the featured handsets are available in the United States, but quite a few can be found only in other countries. Here we present those overseas devices along with a few specs.
The Galaxy Beam's highlight is a small projector. You also get an 8-megapixel camera, a 3.7-inch display, a 3.5mm headset jack, Android 2.1, Samsung's TouchWiz interface, Assisted-GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Acer Liquid E
Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless should offer the Liquid E this year. Inside are Android 2.1, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 768MHz processor.
Sharp KDDI IS01
Sharp's IS01 for Japanese carrier KDDI looks more like a Netbook than a smartphone. Features include Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-inch touch screen with multitouch display, EV-DO Rev. A, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
LG GW620
The messaging-centric GW620 has a slide-out keyboard, a 3-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, a digital music player, a 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth, and GPS.
Alcatel OT-890
The OT-890 slides up to show a QWERTY keyboard. Its feature set offers Android 1.6, a resistive display, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, and a 2-megapixel camera.
Acer BeTouch E400
Acer's BeTouch E400 runs Android 1.6 and offers a 600Mhz processor, a 3.2-inch display, Documents To Go, Microsoft Exchange support, a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS, a 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
ZTE Link
The ZTE Link is an entry-level device with Android 1.6, a 2.8-inch resistive touch screen, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
Pantech IM-600S Sirius
Rumor has it that the IM-600S Sirius may come to U.S. shores this year. Inside you'll find a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1, 3G, Wi-Fi, a microSD card slot, and 500MB of internal memory.
Samsung Galaxy 3
The Galaxy 3 looks very much at home in the Galaxy family. Features include Samsung's TouchWiz UI, a 3.5mm headset jack, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 3-megapixel camera.
Acer Liquid Stream
The Liquid Stream is making its first public appearance at Google I/O. It's a touch-screen handset, but that's about all we know for now.
Samsung Galaxy A
Yet another Samsung Galaxy model, the Galaxy A packs in a 5-megapixel camera, 8GB of internal memory, video calling, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
ZTE Blade
ZTE's Blade comes with a 3.5-inch touch display, an FM radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Android 1.6.
NTT DoCoMo SH-10B
The candy apple red SH-10B from Sharp and NTT DoCoMo opens to reveal a QWERTY keyboard and a 5-inch landscape touch screen.
ZTE Smooth
Call it ZTE's answer to the Palm Pre, the Smooth offers a slide-out keyboard, Android 1.6, a 2.8-inch display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
LG Optimus
Features on the LG Optimus include Android 1.6, a 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, an FM radio, GPS, and a motion detector.
