A look at Microsoft's Windows Intune (images)
Microsoft is testing a new service that uses the cloud to help midsize businesses keep their Windows PCs healthy and up-to-date. Here's a look at how it works.
Getting Intune
Microsoft's Windows Intune service, which is heading into beta on Monday, offers a Silverlight-based Web console for midsize businesses to manage their PCs.
A PC overview
At a glance, managers can see which machines have the latest patches and security updates and which need attention. Individual users can also file help desk tickets, which would show up on the console.
Is that Intel inside?
Among its abilities, Intune can offer details on each PC, including hardware details such as the processor speed and amount of memory, as well as information on which software--and which versions--are installed.
