We took a spin in the line-topping 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country.
High Country
The High Country sits parallel with the sporty Z71 but places its emphasis on luxury.
Choice of beds
The High Country is available with a standard or a short box rear bed.
20-inch chrome wheels
Twenty-inch chrome wheels are standard at this trim level, but you could have optional 22-inchers as well.
Projector beam headlamps
Headlamps are upgraded from reflector beams to projector beams. Fog lights are also included.
High Country grille and bumper
The High Country features a unique front grille and a color-matched front bumper.
Front and Rear Park Assist
Pock-marking the color-matched front bumper are the sensors for the Front and Rear Park Assist system. The rear bumper also features sensors.
Rear camera
A rear-view camera is also standard and features a dynamic trajectory overlay that steers with the wheels.
Driving and parking aids
In addition to the standard Front and Rear Park Assist, our example was equipped with Lane Departure and Forward Collision Alerts. All of these features integrate with the Safety Alert Seat's haptic feedback.
Cabin tech
The basic level of cabin tech at this level still covers most of the bases.
OnStar standard
The OnStar telematics system is standard, and six months of full service is included.
Chevrolet MyLink
MyLink covers the audio source bases with HD Radio, satellite radio, Pandora controls, and USB connectivity.
So many USB ports
There are five USB ports on the Silverado's front row. Three are under a cover on the center stack and two more are hiding in the center console, along with an SD card slot.
Steering wheel controls
GM vehicles are unique in that they include steering wheel controls on both the front and back of the wheel.
Instrument cluster
The instrument cluster features more gauges than you can shake a stick at.
High Country interior
The High Country interior has been upgraded to be more luxurious than you'll find on the rest of the Silverado line.
Adjustable wheel and pedals
The steering wheel features tilt and telescoping adjustability. The pedals are also power-adjustable to accommodate drivers with short or long legs.
Brown saddle leather
The seats of the High Country are upholstered in premium brown "saddle leather."
Heated and ventilated seats
The front buckets are heated and ventilated.
Two V-8 engines
The Silverado High Country can be had with either a 5.3L V-8 engine or a more powerful 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8.
V-8 or V-4?
The EcoTec3 features cylinder deactivation tech that can reduce its displacement to a fuel-sipping V-4 configuration when coasting or cruising.
Selectable 4WD
Our example was a 4X4 model and could be set to operate in RWD, 4WD, Auto, or 4WD Low modes.
Trailer brake controls
The High Country features trailer brake controls with adjustable gain.
Two big girls
The Silverado 1500 is a big girl. Our example is able to pull up to 7,200 pounds, thanks to its towing upgrades.
Crew cab
The Crew Cab configuration seats up to five passengers with a surprising amount of legroom in the second row.
