2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey (photos)
The 2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey earns its price tag with great tech and performance, but its ride may be too sporty and harsh for its single-option automatic transmission and for its target audience.
We're of the opinion, here at Car Tech, that the Infiniti G is one of the best-looking vehicles in the entirety of the Nissan/Infiniti combined lineup, as well as one of the best in its class.
Up front, with the Sport Package's front end, the G37 Sedan evokes the more aggressive Coupe model.
However, the best bit of the G37 Sedan is the 3.7 liter V-6 engine that breathes beneath its sculpted hood.
Power is metered by a seven-speed automatic transmission. Forget about the manual mode; it's a jerkily shifting mess. However, the automatic shift modes are smooth and unobtrusive.
Handling, when you can get the gearbox to play nice, is superb, especially with the Sport package. However, some drivers may find the stiff ride to be a bit harsh.
Fuel economy was observed at 20.8 mpg, which is on the low side of the EPA's estimates.
A rearview camera with guidance lines is standard on the G37 Sedan Journey.
However, the Premium package adds a beeping sonar rear sensor to the mix.
One area where the G37 Sedan is superior to the Coupe is storage space. The Sedan offers more trunk and rear-seat space.
The G37 Sedan's cabin is a nice place to spend a commute, with comfortable seats, build materials that are pleasing to the eye and to the touch, and good sound isolation.
The steering wheel falls nicely into the hand thanks to power tilt and telescoping that is added by the Premium package and tied into the driver's seat memory system.
The Intelligent Cruise Control system is part of the top-tier Technology package and maintains a set following distance behind the car ahead.
The ICC system's forward-facing sensor can be seen in an opening in the lower grille.
Audio controls and voice controls for hands-free calling and navigation can be found on the steering wheel.
Since you'll be spending a good deal of your time in the G37 glancing at the gauges, it's important that they be easy to read and handsomely styled. Fortunately, they're both.
Whether you spec the Navigation package or not, the G37 features a 7-inch LCD for audio and climate controls.
Choosing navigation adds hard-drive-based maps with turn-by-turn directions and XM NavTraffic and NavWeather.
You can search for destinations using touch or physical controls. However, when the vehicle is in motion, you'll have to use the voice commands. It's good to have so many options.
A standard USB connection brings iPod connectivity to the dashboard.
The standard audio rig features 800MB of Music Box audio storage space. Stepping up to the navigation system expands that storage space significantly.
